Learn your 123’s

In the Play School App, Learn your 123's game, children are acquainted with the numbers through basic identification. Starting with 1 through to 10 and then 11 through to 20.

Our number games follow the same incremental learning method as the alphabets. Each game is broken up into presentation – practice and play

In Number Game 1, Learn your 123’s, children get acquainted with the numbers through basic identification. Starting with 1 through to 10 and then 11 through to 20.

This game starts with a story about Yappy’s school day. School going children will be able to relate this to their lives and are encouraged to point out everyday experiences. Linking their experiences to learning numbers makes the whole process, much more enjoyable!

Once presented with the numbers, broken into groups of 4, children get taken to a practice area where they have the opportunity to understand the lesson. Once prepared, they’re asked to test their knowledge through gameplay. This offers them a safe environment where they are not penalised for mistakes. Instead, we use formative feedback in our learning assessment instead of testing.

In this app, we represent numbers in two ways: visually, through dots to show the actual quantity and of course, numerically. This way, children begin associating the graphical representation of a number, for example, 4 with the amount that it represents. It is worth noting that quantity represents numbers after 10 – so, for instance, the number 14 is represented by showing the 10 card (for tens) and the 4 card (for units). This way children understand the concept and quantity of the number shown.
